Between Orcs and Other Peoples
Orcs were created by Kerazz as brutal warriors who believed strength alone determined worth. Their clans remain competitive, nomadic, and quick to reduce the weak or defeated to slavery. Half-orcs are treated harshly within those societies, their mixed blood seen as corruption rather than possibility.
Outside orc clans, life is rarely simple. Half-orcs raised among humans, elves, or other peoples often live beneath suspicion, watched for signs of violence before they have done anything to deserve it. Some remain within mixed settlements, while others seek out half-orc communities where they are judged by deed rather than ancestry.
Strength, Choice, and Rebellion
Most half-orcs inherit the physical power of their orcish parent, but many also gain gifts from the other side of their lineage. Where full-blooded orcs are usually shaped almost entirely for battle, half-orcs may become hunters, druids, scouts, traders, soldiers, healers, artisans, or leaders when given the chance to develop.
Tales frequently tell of half-orcs who rose against the clans that enslaved them, defeating stronger enemies through discipline, tactics, and cunning. Several mercenary companies and free communities claim descent from such rebels, including pirate folk within the Uncharted Isles who trace their freedom to a successful uprising.
Known Communities
The Owl Nest is a clan of druids, shamans, and rangers who travel the borders of Bumblevale. They honour Iduné, protect the surrounding lands, and trade medicines, wild herbs, fungi, and hides for honey, bread, and grain.
The Oaken Collective dwells within the Verdant Weald and is formed of half-orcs with elven ancestry or those who have earned the title of elf-friend. Peaceful but reclusive, they reject violence for its own sake and defend those they consider innocent.
In the Great Ashen Desert, Kharad's Vipers are an all-female half-orc clan who serve as enforcers of the gladiatorial games. Fierce fighters and champions in their own right, they keep contests honest, settle disputes, and are sometimes employed by the Council of Chains for work requiring both authority and force.
