A Primordial Forest

The Verdant Weald is an ancient forest shaped by old stories of Iduné, Malec, Nerida, and Eyralae. Some say it was a love letter between earth and water. Others say it was always meant to be a home for the elves, a place where nature and elemental magic would remain closely entwined. However its beginning is remembered, the Weald endures as one of the oldest and most pristine landscapes in Auldwyn.

Pine, redwood, cedar, and oak crowd its vast interior. To the north lies Malec's Tarn, a great freshwater lake whose waters feed the Malec'sruth as it flows south and later branches east and west toward the sea. The Weald is bordered by mountains to the east, the Hearthlands and Brightmere to the west, and Aucklorn and Harûnd-Tor to the north.

Waters, Wild Growth, and Magic

The Verdant Weald is dense with foliage, hidden trails, and rumoured cave networks. Rare herbs, fungi, and unusual plant life flourish beneath its canopy, while woodland creatures move through a landscape many regard as nature in one of its purest forms. The waters flowing from Malec's Tarn and through the forest are widely believed to carry minor healing properties.

Nature magic and elemental magic are said to linger here almost like a perfume. Mists gather where they please, rivers seem brighter than they should, and the whole forest often feels touched by something older and more watchful than ordinary wilderness.

Silva'Karr

Silva'Karr is the largest settlement in the Verdant Weald, founded where the Argent River flows south from Argent Hollow and forks within the forest. Though first shaped by both Heart-sworn and Soul-sworn elves, the city grew into a welcoming trade centre so long as newcomers swore to protect the Weald. Humans, half-elves, and smaller numbers of dwarves, gnomes, halflings, half-orcs, and other travellers have all found a place there through trade and oath.

The city is guided by the Verdant Council, formed from Heart-sworn elders, Soul-sworn elders, and a representative of the Oaken Copse clan. Silva'Karr is known for active trade, music, taverns, marketplaces, elven wine, potions, trinkets, and craftsmanship where elven enchantment complements gnomish and dwarven skill.

Eyralae's Grove and Iduné's Fryth

Near the point where Malec's Tarn tapers into Malec'sruth stands Eyralae's Grove, a mystical settlement founded by elven sorcerers, witches, and priestesses devoted especially to Eyralae and Malec. Here elemental, ritual, and tribal magical traditions are studied together. Though mostly home to elves and half-elves, the enclave welcomes respectful magic users of any race, and many treat the journey there as both study and pilgrimage.

Far to the south-east lies Iduné's Fryth, deep in the Weald where the forest meets the mountains. It is the home of the Soul-sworn, whose dwellings are built into the trees themselves. Druids, rangers, and healers are strongest there, and while its people are courteous to visitors who honour nature, they are cautious and prefer the company of those who understand the forest's deeper ways.

The Oaken Copse and Those Who Enter

At the southern edge of the forest lies the Oaken Copse, a small hidden valley where the Oaken Collective makes its home. The clan is formed of half-orcs of elven blood or those who have earned the title of elf-friend. They keep good relations with the other peoples of the Weald while remaining largely self-contained, and many among them honour the nature deities as well as the great spirits Oralon and Tolk.

The Verdant Weald is welcoming to those who come in peace, yet stories warn against travelling too deeply without guidance. Inexperienced travellers are said to vanish into the mists, and those who show contempt for the forest may draw the attention of the Wyld Hunt. The Weald offers beauty, healing, trade, and knowledge, but it also protects itself.
