A growing darkness has been settling over the mountain valley of Aucklorn Vale for weeks.
Fog lingers in the lowlands long after sunrise. Roads vanish beneath sudden banks of mist, and travellers speak of strange lights moving through the forests after dark. The old passes have become increasingly dangerous, plagued by a fractious earth that has cut trade routes, buried roads, and left some regions isolated from the lands beyond the mountains.
The pass falls
For reasons known only to you, you were travelling through one of those passes when the mountainside gave way.
You remember the thunder of stone, the splintering of trees, and the road disappearing behind a wall of earth and broken rock. Whether by instinct, luck, or divine intervention, you escaped with your life. The pass is now sealed behind you, and the path ahead descends into a cold, fog-filled valley.
Who are you?
Why were you travelling through the mountains near Aucklorn Vale? Where did you come from, and where were you headed? Were you seeking work, shelter, fortune, or answers? Were you following a rumour, fleeing something behind you, or simply passing through on your way elsewhere?
Those answers belong to you.
A fire in the mist
As evening settles, you catch sight of a warm fire burning through the mist, and what looks to be a friendly face standing beside it. It seems to offer the first sign of safety since the mountain began to fall about you.
Beyond that fire lies the beginning of your story.
What do you do?
